Fashion From Fuji Rock 2010

Multi-layered patterns and leggings were everywhere, even on the men! Love.

JAPAN

Ryan and I went to Japan for 8 awesome days, hoping from Fuji Rock to Tokyo to Kyoto, and finally Osaka. Here are the best photos from Tokyo, a city where the fashion is so extreme, and so amazing, its hard to keep your eyes off people.

Blonde Bob

Sunday afternoon at a park in Toyko. Love the overalls, shirt collar, and just the whole ensemble! The socks just make it don't they?

Beautiful in Harijuku

I love how EVERYTHING is thought out in these outfits. The tights are great. So are the black lace gloves. And the girl in blue was wearing the most startling blue contacts to match her dress. Near Harijuku station, Tokyo.

How Can You Not Love These Guys?

You should have seen the way that blonde hair blew in the wind...

Window shopping one afternoon in Tokyo's (beautiful) ritzy shopping area. This photo epitomizes the mix of Eastern and Western styles you still see in Japan.

Boys Outside Shinjuku Shrine

When we were walking home one night we saw this amazing shinto fair happening at a small shrine near our hotel in Shinjuku (Tokyo). These guys were stopping by before hitting the bars and nightlife Shinjuku is famous for. I love the juxtaposition of kimono beside the animal print tee.

Shanghai Boys

I loved these guys! They didn't understand me at all when I told them I liked their hair cuts. But when I pulled out my camera they blushed, and got in this pose...

Fashion Enforced

All the police wear these uniforms in Shanghai.

Outside Shanghai Museum

Looks like perms are just as popular in China as in Korea! I love that neckline around her slim shoulders.

Rainboots All In A Row

Walking down a not so rainy street in Shanghai I saw these girls coming towards me and started screaming at Ryan for the camera. 5 pairs of different rainboots? What could be cooler?! They were all too shy to let me photograph them fully, you can see the girl 2nd from the right turning away. But I love their boots!

Hair, nails, shoes? Check!

these guys were walking through the park in hongdae some saturday ago. their styles are different but somehow so complimentary. the tattoo on the right is someone's name. tattoos were illegal in korea until 5 years ago so it makes a pretty loud statement. also love the extreme laces on his shoes (which give him a couple extra cm) the teased hair, and yes, the black nails.

Hanging in the Park, Hongdae

not sure what this guys deal was. he was sitting in the park in hongdae. surrounded by drunk's and drunks' trash chilling with his headphones on. but that outfit! its some sort of plastic jumpsuit. with these crazy space shoes i wish i had captured. needless to say he was friendly. and we both liked that his sunglasses matched my belt.

Boys Outside American Apparel

There were about 5 guys standing outside American Apparel watching the crowds go by one night in Seoul. I liked their loungey stances and the preppy cool look. which is really the only look most korean guys can pull off.

Student Style

My poor students have the worst uniforms. I love the little ways they try to express themselves within the thin parameters of whats allowed. This girl was sporting a pretty awesome pair of lenless frames today. Like the haircut too.

Oh Look At Me!

Yes she is wearing two (different) kinds of shoes, angel wings, and hair-ties. Usually dogs in parks have colored ears or tails. Not this little princess.

Shall we get cotton candy in a cup or a slushie?

Mr. and Mrs. Minnie go to Seoul Grand Park

It is not unusual to see men carrying their girlfriend's purses...couple gear is also popular.

Butt Padding

You would be surprised how popular this is! Takes VPL to a whole new level...

Shoes In Hongdae

Sleek Asleep On The Subway

This guy really stood out among normal commuters. His bleached hair so intentionally combed and his black boots were the best. Sorry I couldn't get it all in before being noticed!

St. Paddy's in Seoul

Girls in Green

All in Bows

Thats not an effect, the sky was really that color thanks to the yellow dust storm from China.

Startled in the Station

Can I please take your picture? I think I caught some of his foundation in the flash...

Window Shopping in Ulsan

How much is that girlie in the window..? She was wandering around in the display case while her mother shopped. It reminded me of something I would have done as a child while visiting my parents at work. I like her pink coat. Oversize sweaters and leggings were all the rage down in Ulsan...boring!

The Fasion of Sanitation

Bunnies Galore!..Sinchon

These bunny sweaters are everywhere! I admit I have one too...But this bartender at Mikes Cabin in Sinchon looked so cute in it I had to take a picture...a reminder that Easter (and Spring!) are just around the corner.

On the street...Sinchon

This guy was selling cellphones for LG Telecom. I dont think this was the uniform. It was just what he decided to wear to work. In a busy area like Sinchon (Seoul nightlife scene) he looked good. I like the blue suede shoes.

Winter in Korea

The long dreaded winter is finally coming to a close. But here are some of my favorite street fashions from the season...

Shoes near Sookmyung Women's University

Burger King in Apujeong

Lensless Frames and Cardholder

Matching Couple

Perm in Sunbu-Dong

Perms are big in Korea. Maybe even more so with men than women. Since almost every Korean has naturally stick straight hair a perm is a way to differentiate yourself or make you look that much more like your favorite pop star. This guy took his perm to a whole new level. I was impressed. He was walking down the street in my neighborhood (2 hours from Seoul!) with his friend who was dressed in the normal outfit of these parts (huge puffy plastic jacket and skinny jeans). This guy stood out like seeing a fashion cartoon character walking down the street. I like the bobby pin. Why white emo boys wear skinny jeans I will never understand. They should be left to Asians and 14 year old girls.
Other Koreans with perms...
 (yes those are all boys)

Valentine's Day in Chungcheong Province

I saw this girl outside the hot springs Ryan and I went to for Valentine's day in the Chungeong Province. Something about her reminded me of Bella, same age and quirkiness. Far away from Seoul there aren't many people who really splash out and dress differently, but she immediately caught my eye. She's grunge while being girly and while this look wouldn't be remarkable in other parts of Korea, there was no one around dressed like her. The socks of tights are very in right now.

THAILAND

Ryan and I headed to Thailand for some much needed sol. I loved the JJ market in Bangkok, the world's largest weekend market. You can buy everything from snakes, baby pigs, pad thai, coconuts, home furnishings, to shoes. We spent a Saturday getting lost in this labyrinth until we had mere cents in our pockets.
"Winter in Korea" to come.
